It’s you that He wants

John 1:17

For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

Wherever you feel you are at in your relationship with God today, I need you to understand that God chose you so that He could hang out with you. He is not waiting for you to do the right thing, or to please Him with your service or your hours of praying and fasting, His desire is simply to be with you and for you to be with Him.

When the law was given, the people of God were kept at a distance from God. He simply couldn’t come among them, because in His goodness and holiness He couldn’t co-exist with sinful humanity without their being consumed.

Have you ever had a relationship where you knew you were being kept at a distance? That relationship is far from fulfilling.

When the time came, however, Grace and Truth came in the person of Jesus. At last the heart of God for His people could be fully revealed and the love of God could be made known.

Are you trying to relate to God as if you are under the law? Do you feel that He is distant and aloof?

If that is the case you have not had a revelation of the difference that Grace has made. All is well between you and God – and that fact is immutable, because it isn’t even up to you!

When Jesus chose disciples at the outset of His ministry, it says that He chose them to be with Him; not to serve Him, or to preach, or to take care of any tasks, but to be with Him. He wanted them to simply be with Him.

Your first calling as a Christian, is to walk with God. I used to get excited about going to pray, but now I get excited just to tell Him, “I’m here. I just want to be with you.”

Under the Old Covenant, no one could look upon God’s face, but now we get to come right into the holy of holies and meet Him face to face. Because of Jesus, whatever is wrong with you, you can still look directly at God and run into His arms, even knowing that you fell short.

You ought to feel so valued knowing that. No one is more wanted than you are. No one is more welcome in His presence than you are. You were not even saved so that you could go to church; it was so that you could show up in His presence.

Whatever is wrong in your life today, show up in His presence. Tell Him, “I’m here. I just want to be with you.” Don’t let anything keep you away. You are His and He is more than excited about you! Let His presence make you whole!

Pray

Heavenly Father, I just want to be with you today. Thank you that I can enter the holy of holies because of the precious blood of Jesus. Thank you that you have invited me to meet with you face to face. There is no one who celebrates me as much as you do. Thank you, Lord! I love to be with you.

Thank you that you do not keep me at a distance. I can enjoy intimacy with you because you chose me to be with you. What an awesome calling! Thank you, Lord!
