Blessed is the man to whom the Lord does not impute iniquity, And in whose spirit there is no deceit.
King David had an ambition: it was to build God a house. He longed to make it happen, but when he messed up by taking Bathsheba and killing Uriah, one consequence of his wrongdoing was that he had to forfeit his ambition. You can read the story in 2 Samuel chapter 11.
David said, “I wish I lived under a covenant where God wouldn’t judge me like this.” He didn’t get to build the temple. God was still pleased with his heart and He blessed David like he had built it, but he was disqualified from fulfilling his potential because of his sin.
David longed for God to redeem his mistakes and give him a second chance to do what he was born to do, but it didn’t happen for him. Nevertheless, David understood that there was a generation coming up that would be so blessed, because God would refuse to count their sins against them.
Ladies and gentlemen, that is US! We enjoy that glorious privilege to be able to make mistakes, take wrong turns and make bad choices, and yet to be able to turn back to God and for Him to expunge the record so that we can go free!
There’s nothing you and I can do that will cause God to give up on us. He will never punish us by cutting off our future, or by turning away from us. We live under the New Covenant. The blood of Jesus has not just covered our sin, but it has completely washed it away once and for all; past present and future.
Not only is the way cleared for you and I to fulfill our God given destiny on the Earth, but we will not pass our sin down to our children. God told David that his son would do in public what he had done in private and that a sword would never leave his house. David experienced continual trouble and shame in his house as a result of his sin; but that is not our inheritance!
If there is a voice in your head telling you that you cannot make it and that your family is too weighed down by so many hereditary issues, call to mind the blood of Jesus! Its power and effectiveness FAR outweigh anything you have ever done, whatever it is. Because of the tremendous grace of God, you can still go on to fulfill your God-given purpose in the Earth. Give Him praise today!
Heavenly Father, THANK YOU that I live in the glorious era of your grace! Thank you that you NEVER count my sin against me, because my trust and my faith are in your goodness. You are too good to me! You treat me far better than I deserve!
When I think of all the reasons why I should be disqualified from living a fulfilled life, there are many! But THANK YOU for the blood of your Son, Jesus Christ! I place my trust in that blood today and I stretch out my expectation once again that you are working on my behalf. Thank you, Lord!
