Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water; but a man of understanding will draw it out.
The highest achieving people in life have mentors and coaches, no matter how successful they become. They never graduate from needing someone to help them train and improve.
What is it that you need to release by way of potential for which you have no mentor?
You won’t know what is in you until someone else sees it; someone who is able to draw out of you what you are still unaware of. In ministry, you cannot call yourself. Even Jesus had to observe divine order and wait until John the Baptist cried out, “Behold the Lamb of God!” When he was asked to read a portion of scripture in the synagogue in Nazareth in Luke 4:20, he had to shut the book and sit down as soon as He was finished. Even though He was the Son of God, He still didn’t have the liberty to do more than He was invited to do by the leader of that synagogue.
Find someone who believes in what is in you, and who raises you up to do it. Don’t stay with someone who wants to keep you small. Some pastors create intense frustration in those whom God sends to them to release, by keeping them “sitting in the little chair” when they are now fully grown. They are able to preach the Word better than the pastor, but he is not secure enough to handle being outshone.
You can’t send a David to a Saul for mentorship, and superstar pastors are unscriptural. The church today is weaker than it should be because in the churches there is only one voice. The people only listen to one aspect of the Word through that one main man, when we are supposed to be built up by what every join supplies.
My attitude is this: copy my sermon and add what God gave you! The Word doesn’t belong to me; once you receive it and meditate it, it is YOUR Word. Listen to my messages and go out and preach them better! You will never have to apologize to me why you have preached the same Word!
Whatever area you feel that you are called to excel in, make sure you find someone else who has already gone ahead of you, and who is secure enough to steward your gift. Then remain humble and give it time. God will surely use them to take you to where you are supposed to be!
Heavenly Father, thank you for the example of Jesus in the Earth, and how He observed divine order. Thank you for your way of doing things, Lord. Right now I believe that I receive a mentor who can take me to where I need to go in life.
Thank you for the opportunities that are up ahead because of the mentors in my life. Thank you for the wisdom to handle being mentored excellently and to get the most out of these destiny connections. I believe that I, too, can be a blessing to someone coming up under me as I help them to discover what is in them. In Jesus’ name!
