Why relationships matter

Psalm 68:6

God sets the solitary in families

It is a curious thing that donkeys and oxen, if harnessed together, will pull better than on their own.  That is because partnership, even when it isn’t perfect, is meaningful, and brings out strength in a way that nothing else can.

It is true that your greatness will be sculpted in solitude, but the bigger picture is that you and I are designed for community. We are wired to relate and to be alongside others in life. That is the place of our greatest productivity and accomplishment. The challenge is that if you ever truly open up to someone, you empower them to hurt you the most.

When there is trouble in your relationships, there is no rest for you. You may try to keep yourself aloof from relationships to save yourself the pain, but if you don’t have the guts to open up to significant others and be honest and genuine with them, you will never live!

We need people in our life because we are supposed to be one another’s keeper. We need people who will hold us accountable and be there when our weaknesses threaten to rule us. We need people whose opinion we care about to such a degree that we will refrain from doing something dumb, because we can’t bear to let them down. We need to be in community with others we respect.

If there is no one in your life, start being friendly to people. Accept people, warts and all, and be nice to them. When the time is right, disclose who you are to them and build bonds that will bring the best out of you. And if the worst happens, and the enemy destroys what you have been working on, it is not the end for you. The Lord knows how to keep you and to bring what you need into your life just when you need it. Trust Him today!

Heavenly Father, you are the Lord of my life and the Lord of my relationships. Thank you for giving me meaningful, happy, fulfilling relationships in my life. I declare that I trust you today, because you know how to lead me, to help me and to give me wisdom in all my friendships and relationships. I believe right now that I receive supernatural help from you, to overcome fear, disappointment and weakness and to build awesome relationships. Thank you, Lord!
