Keep the vultures off!

Genesis 15:8-11

And (Abraham) said, “Lord God, how shall I know that I will inherit it?”

So He said to him, “Bring Me a three-year-old heifer, a three-year-old female goat, a three-year-old ram, a turtledove, and a young pigeon.” Then he brought all these to Him and cut them in two, down the middle, and placed each piece opposite the other; but he did not cut the birds in two. And when the vultures came down on the carcasses, Abram drove them away.

When Abram needed certainty to what God has promised him, His answer was covenant. Covenant is the strongest agreement known to man, breakable only by death. In fact, by entering into covenant, God was declaring that He would have to cease to exist if He went back on His Word!

There is no covenant without sacrifice. Do you want the deeper for the cheaper in life?  Are you hoping for a harvest when you haven’t sacrificed to sow?  Are you crying about your marriage when you haven’t yet given anything up for the sake of the good of your relationship?

God’s Word is His covenant, and when you take heed of it and obey it to the point of sacrifice, just as Abraham did, notice what happens next – the vultures come!

Whenever you are about to break into another realm, the enemy brings a crisis. You find yourself living in a fight. You go to bed fighting and contending for your breakthrough and you get up fighting. Everything starts falling apart and there is trouble on every side. Stuff comes to take away your sacrifice and steal your harvest.

You have been sacrificing for your marriage believing God for breakthrough, but then some little “cutey” comes along and leads you into something that takes you off track. You have been sacrificing at work to do an excellent job, but when the promotion is just around the corner, someone new comes in and offends you and throws you off your game. All of a sudden you have tarnished your professional reputation and the promotion goes to someone else.

You must be ready to defend your covenant sacrifice You can’t afford to have some bird come and take it away. Do what it takes to stay on track and to go the distance. The enemy always intensifies the pressure when you are closest to your breakthrough. Recognize his tactics and keep your cool.

Your whole life turns on the basis of the covenants you honor. Make sure that you are going the full distance to lay hold of what God has in store for you. He is faithful and He will bring it to pass according to His Word.

Heavenly Father, thank you that your Word is your covenant and it is impossible for you to go back on what you said. Even in the face of pressure I uphold your Word above my circumstances, because I know that you are bringing it to pass in my life.

Thank you for giving me the presence of mind to recognize the vultures that come to steal my sacrifice and render it null and void. I ask you to give me the grace to stay on your Word for as long as it takes to see my breakthrough and to keep the vultures off. Thank you, Lord!
