Hebrews 2:1, 3
Therefore, we must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away…how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation?
What is your plan to escape the pitfalls of life and the containment that circumstances place on you? How will you escape the depression and living from paycheck to paycheck? Maybe everyone around you is crazy and the projections that society is making about you are not good. Maybe your environment is stifling and you don’t know how you will ever rise up above it. Let me tell you, that there IS a way of escape; it is the Word of God.
The Word of God is the power of God unto salvation. If you will hold onto the Word, nothing will be impossible for you.
Two people can be in the same situation and have entirely different experiences based on their treatment of the Word.
During the days of the Babylonian capture of Israel, circumstances were terrible. Psalm 137 tells us how people wept. All they could think about was how great it had been in the past. They became passive and miserable and they hung up their harps and wallowed in it!
God loves us so much that He even has a book of tears! He records all of our sorrows because He is touched with the feelings of our infirmities. He has compassion for our humanity. But there is no way out through tears and sorrow. The way out is through the Word.
The prophet, Daniel was alive at this same time, but instead of crying, he was in the Word. As he read, he came to understand that the days for the captivity were up. In Jeremiah 29:10 Daniel found out that after 70 years God would visit them and bring about their release. The season for bondage was over, but the people didn’t know it!
Maybe you are still talking about “like father like son” and you didn’t know that the expiration date on that has passed. You are a new creation in Christ Jesus! You may be crying over your diagnosis and your poor prognosis, but you’re not aware that the time for being held captive by sickness is over. It’s time you walked free!
You may be crying in Babylon, but some of us are in the Word. Life presents all kinds of obstacles and the devil makes many threats. All of us are in a fight right now, but those who don’t look like they are going through anything are the ones who are in the Word. The threats don’t work on us, because we have a Word! The Lord will surely visit us and perform His good Word in our lives!
Heavenly Father, right now I choose to give heed to your Word, just as the book of Hebrews says. Thank you that you have regard for my sorrows and you feel my pain, but thank you that you don’t leave me there. You give me your Word, and by that Word I can come out.
Thank you that the expiration date on bondage and captivity to the power of the enemy is over. I refuse to settle for a life of defeat. I WILL POSSESS THE PROMISES YOU HAVE GIVEN ME, because as I stand on your Word, you will perform it in my life! Thank you, Lord!
