When Life Happens

Genesis 15:1-2

After these things, the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision, saying, “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward.”

But Abram said, “Lord God, what will You give me, seeing I go childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?”

Where would we be if the Word of the Lord had not come to us! When life happens in a way contrary to how you expected, it can be hard to know what to do next. You cleaned up your life but the husband of wife you are believing for hasn’t appeared; you prayed and gave, but the situation that is pressing you hasn’t changed yet; you gave up some things for God, and you feel like He simply hasn’t done right by you.

The worse thing you can do to cripple your own life is to put yourself in a place where you are not hearing the Word, because after all these things have taken place, the Word of the Lord needs to come to you.

When the Word doesn’t come, we come up with a Plan B. It was Jewish tradition that if a man died childless, the faithful servant of his house would be his heir, which was why Abraham had Eliezer of Damascus lined up. What plans have you come up with in case God disappoints you?

The truth is that the Word God has given you will still come to pass in your life, in spite of everything that has happened, once what you see lines up with it.

If the Word God has given you is bumping up against what you see, you are at a stalemate. You heard the Word, but the sickness in your life is the only thing you can see right now. You heard the Word, but the person you are married to, or the mess that is going on in your family or at work is uppermost in your mind and you can’t see past it. You are like Abraham who could only see that he was still childless.

Let God speak to you again, just as He did to Abraham, and allow Him to lift your eyes to see what HE will do despite your challenges. Let Him even expand our vision to encapsulate even more than He originally said. Abraham was struggling to conceive one child, but God came to Him in the midst of His struggle and spoke to Him about billions of descendants!

When the Word comes, it is powerful to cast down every image that you have which contradicts what God will do. The Word will fill you with new images of success, breakthrough and the supernatural ability to achieve the impossible.

Stop seeing yourself fired and put out and left on the shelf. Stop wondering if you can backslide for a while until you can get some things done your way and repent afterwards! Expand the limitations of your faith and start with the impossible. God will never get alongside you as you feel sorry for yourself, but He will supply you with a vision that will take you all the way to your manifestation. Let His Word come to you again, and start creating your world!

Heavenly Father, thank you for your Word that comes to me afresh even when I think everything has gone disastrously wrong. Thank you that you re-focus me and re-envision me. Thank you that every time you speak you take me higher.

I stand on your Word again today and I declare that your promises are coming to pass in my life. I will not tolerate the images of defeat and failure that try to crowd my mind. I fix my thoughts on what you will do, because you ARE my shield and my exceedingly great reward. Thank you, Lord!
