How to Stop People Under-Estimating You
Numbers 13: 32-33
“The land through which we have gone as spies is a land that devours its inhabitants, and all the people whom we saw in it are men of great stature. There we saw the giants (the descendants of Anak came from the giants); and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight.”
How do you see yourself today?
The size of the inhabitants of the land of Canaan intimidated the men of Israel sent as spies because of how they saw themselves. They started to dramatize the situation to justify their position, but the real issue was that they saw themselves as weak, defeated and hopeless before they showed up for the fight.
What you have to understand about life is that our fight is not about the outward things. The land was already theirs. There was no dispute as to whether they could have it, but it seemed that way to them because of how they saw themselves. The real fight was about how they saw themselves.
God has said you can have your healing, your promotion, your business, your ministry and every other desire of your heart. He withholds no good thing from you.
Your credit has nothing to do with whether or not you can have the house. The doctor’s report is nothing to do with whether or not divine healing is available. The people who lived in the land of Canaan had nothing to do with whether or not the Israelites could have the land.
The issue we need to address is, how do you see yourself today as regards the thing you most want to make happen in your life? If the obstacles seem too big, maybe you see yourself as too small!
The reality is that you don’t know how strong you are until you decide to fight. You have ammunition, spiritual weapons that will take the devil down, and enable you to overcome the hopelessness and the fear, but you must decide to fight.
The fight is to make a shift in your perspective, so that you don’t stay in hiding any longer, because who you are in your own sight is who you are to the rest of us. Are you a person who pays rent, or one who collects rents? Are you an employee or an employer? A person who struggles or one who lifts others to higher ground?
People are not defeated because they ask for too much, they are defeated because they ask for too little. Upgrade your expectation! Don’t go to the job ready to accept twenty thousand, when someone else is being paid thirty for the same job! Ask yourself why you didn’t think you were worth that money.
What are you tolerating today? Are you accepting that they should all talk about you because they know your issues, when they, too, nurse issues in private? Your life should not be an apology just because you made mistakes; it should be a statement of possibility about what God can do with broken humanity. Are you receiving grasshopper treatment because you taught the world that it is OK with you?
Become a giant in your own sight. Be an entrepreneur and an investor. Study for your degree; make the decision to rise. Decide to become the best you possible. It’s not too late for you!
Pray
Heavenly Father, thank you for your amazing will for me! Thank you that you have provided so much blessing and you do not withhold a single good thing from me.
From today onwards, I will not tolerate a grasshopper image of myself. I declare that I am becoming a giant in my own eyes. I see myself as successful in whatever I put my hand to, fruitful in every good work, skillful in relationships, loved among my family and friends and making a contribution in this world which will lift humanity. Thank you, Lord!
Amen
Good day Dr. Mumba,
Just sharing a quick thought on how this message can be construed from two different perspective. I made an offer to hire someone. The position had a base per hour, a 10 percent commissions that came with a $100k cap. If exceeding that goal then bonus and profit sharing kicked in. The extra perk would require some work on their part.
The focus was on $X per hour because the last job that terminated them 2 years ago paid $Y per hour.
Thank you Lord for the Word of encouragement. I choose today to put the inferiority complex mindset out of my daily vocabulary.By Your grace I declare success in everything I will put my hands to in the Mighty name of Jesus Christ Amen.
