It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.
Many people are defeated even while holding their Bible because they don’t have a personal Word, a Word that God Himself has spoken to them, about their life and situation.
Jesus said that to step over into the life of the Spirit, which is the life of mastery and dominion, we must receive a Word – not just any Word, but a Word that lifts off the pages of the scripture, and brings revelation, power and faith. When we have a Word we can come through anything that life has handed us, because now we can walk in the Spirit and our feet are like hinds feet. We stride over trouble and difficulty, like that sure-footed animal, which navigates the treacherous mountain heights where others can’t safely go, and makes it look easy!
That is what it means to walk in the Spirit. When others would be defeated by what you are facing, you still come out of it only to rise again to the top. The Apostle Paul got a Word on the third day of a fourteen-day storm and it carried the entire ship to safety. Notice that while others were tossing stuff overboard and making plans to dispense with the prisoners, Paul had a better way; he focused on getting a Word. Even though some had to cross on broken pieces, no lives were lost according to that Word. He went on to complete his divine purpose, including writing two thirds of the New Testament!
If you cease to hear from God, you stop enjoying your life with God. Psalm 29 speaks of the powerful impact of the voice of God in our lives. There is no substitute for that voice. We MUST have that fresh Word that God speaks to be renewed and to be propelled forward in our purpose.
If you want to know what it means to walk in the Spirit, walk in the Word; the Word that is fresh. And here is how to get a fresh Word: “The voice of the Lord is over many waters.” (Psalm 29:3) The water is the Word of God. You must have enough of the written Word in you so that God can lift a portion out of it when He wants to speak. He will just bring it up on the inside and when He does, your situation immediately loses its power to control you.
When you have a freshly spoken Word, you no longer walk in the flesh, yielding to fear, anger, confusion and depression. You have that Word as an anchor for your soul, right there in the storm, giving you the reassurance that there is something the other side of it, if you will keep walking.
Heavenly Father, thank you that your voice is powerful. Your voice is the sword of the Spirit and it cuts down the works of the enemy. Your Word is an anchor for my soul and it is life and peace to me.
I acknowledge before you my need for a fresh Word for every situation. I will not try to make my life work on yesterday’s word, and I receive your grace to help me hear from you. I recommit to filling my mind and heart with your written Word and I thank you for your Spirit of renewal that brings me alive to you once again. Thank you, Lord!
