Escaping the stress-filled life

Colossians 3:2

Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.

There was a time in King David’s life where he was supposed to go into battle, but instead he stayed home, and ended up getting into a mess with Bathsheba because he wasn’t where he was supposed to be.

It’s the same for us when our thoughts and attitudes mirror those of the world, rather than the Word. It is not that God is against us, and therefore we go through stuff to teach us something. No! Satan is not the teacher of the church! Maybe you only pay attention to the Word when your back is up against the wall, but it doesn’t have to be that way.

Sometimes people set themselves up to be contrary in the name of being individual and different. For instance, if they require you to dress a certain way at work, ignoring that won’t earn you brownie points!

If relationships work by yielding and compromise so that both parties win, but you want to control everything and argue your point, it is no surprise that your wife wasn’t happy! If you always want to assert your way, you will end up resisting the laws that govern sweet relationships. You should have been over there with your wife, making a truce, but instead you were over by yourself, holding out on her. No wonder you got into a mess!

God’s ways work. His thoughts are life and they are peace. Doing things according to His Word brings peace to our lives. Are you living a stress-filled life where you are contradicting everything?

If so, you are probably praying about a lot of things that you don’t need to pray about. You are binding this and that, but really you need to get on the Word and line up your thoughts and behavior with it.

Get on the Word about love, about forgiveness, about sowing, about your health and your prosperity, about developing character, about your self-worth and about your ability to overcome. Expect that when you pray, God will hear you. Don’t fast for things you don’t need to fast for. Can it be that you are asking for things that are already released to you? Maybe you just don’t understand what has been going on and  you think that God is holding out on you.

Let the will of God for you become big on the inside, and stop being the opposition party at your house! Putting everyone else right is a stressful life to live! Choose to yield and to listen. Don’t just discard what significant others are saying to you, but let God do His sovereign work of salvation in your life as you set your mind to do it His way.

Heavenly Father, thank you that I have been handpicked by you for your purposes. Thank you that everything you are doing in my life is a sign to others that you are able to save completely. I yield to you, today and welcome your saving power in my life to bring me out of trouble YOUR WAY!

Thank you for the grace to yield to your thoughts and your ways. Thank you for showing me where I need to give up resisting you and resisting others. You give me the wisdom to walk rightly all the days of my life and to experience your goodness in the land of the living. Thank you, Lord!
