Don’t flirt with fear!

2 Timothy 1:7

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

Have you ever heard anyone say that a little fear is good, because it stops us from doing something dangerous?

This is what you get for thinking like the unbeliever! As Christians, we must be clear that fear is not from God and it has no useful effects! If we need to avoid dangerous choices or actions, wisdom is available to us from God, so that we can avoid bad consequences.

Fear, on the other hand, is always an enemy. Notice what fear will rob us of: power, love and a sound mind. If you are driven to act a certain way by fear of losing something precious to you, or motivated to speak by fear of what will happen next, there will be no love in what you say or do, no power, and no soundness.

In fact, Job had a terrible experience when exactly the things he had feared came upon him! (Job 3:25) That is because fear is basically faith in the devil’s power to harm us, just as Bible faith is faith in God’s ability to bless, empower and save us.

Fear must be deliberately overcome. There is no place in God’s purpose for our lives for us to tolerate any form of fear: fear of lack, fear of sickness, fear of abandonment, fear of criticism or rejection – even fear of spiders or snakes – the origin is the same; it is the spirit of fear.

How do we overcome fear? It sounds straightforward, but if you have ever tried to convince yourself not to be afraid of something or someone, you will know how impossible it is to beat fear with willpower alone. The battle against fear is spiritual, and we must fight it with spiritual weapons.

There is an antidote to fear that will work every time; we just need to be aware of it and use it: it is the love of God. 1 John 4:18 tells us,

“There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.”

Fear involves torment, but it will be driven out by perfected love; that means the kind of love that God gives. The kind of love that is unconditional, constant, merciful, compassionate, empowering, undefeated and un-paralleled, that love that provoked God to give us His best when we were at our ugliest and worst; that is the love that drives out all fear.

Realize today that your life is completely covered. There will never be a loss or a challenge in your life that will be greater than the love of God for you, or His ability to bring you out on top. There will never be a threat that will cancel out or supersede His grace and His kindness towards you.

Meditate on the immense and intimate love that God has for you, and evict the enemy of fear from your life TODAY!

Meditate and pray

The love that God has for me is so intense that He will ALWAYS come for me. He will ALWAYS see my struggle and He will ALWAYS fight for me and for my good. He will NEVER send anything to harm me, and He will ALWAYS protect me, help me and lift me up. I am more than a conqueror through Him who loves me.

Father, right now I take authority over fear in my life. I refuse to yield to any form of fear. Your love for me is always greater than the threat or the challenge I am facing. Thank you, Father that your perfect love, shed abroad in my heart, causes me to be at rest and to be able to trust you in every situation I find myself in. Thank you, Lord!
