Then they said to him, “Who are you, that we may give an answer to those who sent us? What do you say about yourself?”
This same question that the Jews confronted John the Baptist with, will bother each one of us until we answer it. The question of our identity is not a simple one because we literally have to find out who we are from the Word.
If we get our identity from what those around us think, we will end up messed up! The Jews’ best guess was that John was Elijah, or that he was the Christ, but like each of us, John had a unique role and a place of authority in the realm of the spirit.
The fact is that you will never have a manifestation of God’s power and reality in your life larger than the person you believe yourself to be. If you don’t believe you are strong, you will always gravitate towards weakness. If you don’t believe you are worth loving, you will settle for half a relationship. If you don’t believe that the hand of the Lord should be on you, you are never confident that the anointing is there.
What do you say about yourself? What your neighbor says about you doesn’t matter, unless you let it; so, don’t let your enemy, the devil, convince you that you are a small person who deserves a small chair in life.
Do you know how powerful and significant you are? People may try to define you, pigeon hole you and confine you, but if you will believe that you are worthy of respect, you will not go back into that abusive situation.
Just as you cannot transact in the natural world without an ID, you cannot transact in the realm of the Spirit when you don’t know who you are. Like the seven sons of Sceva in Acts 19, the forces of hell will challenge what you decree. You might be trying right now to attack the gates of hell and take over some stuff, but because you need to work on knowing who you are, you are hitting resistance.
There is a better way to do this. Every Christian must discover who he is as he walks with God. We can become established in our understanding of who we are in Christ and we can receive revelation of our unique part in God’s purposes. Make that your prayer and pursuit today.
Today, in the name of Jesus, I declare that I am exactly what the Word says I am. I have authority in three worlds: in Heaven, on the Earth and over all the powers of darkness. When I release my faith, all of Heaven is at attention and all of hell stands still; things on the Earth will be rearranged because I am the redeemed of the Lord and the Word says, “Let the redeemed of the Lord say so!”
