1 Samuel 7:12
Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen, and called its name Ebenezer, saying, “Thus far the Lord has helped us.”
Mizpah is the place where Jacob and Laban were finally separated after 20 years of Jacob working for Laban.
After 20 years of being lied to and treated badly, Jacob sought the Lord for a way out. He gave him the strategy of setting the rods before the sheep while they were mating so that they conceived young whose coloring matched that of the rods, rather than of their parents. This worked in Jacob’s favor since Laban had promised him all the animals of that coloring for his own, and he left with wealth, even though Laban had tried to cheat him out of his wages.
Mizpah signifies a place of transition, out of one way of living that is hallmarked by trouble and containment, and into a place of breakthrough and peace.
Every person will have to go through their own Mizpah in order to see God’s goodness manifest in their lives.
Ultimately, you are going to get out of trouble because God will give you a plan and a strategic mindset. It’s not going to happen without your involvement. But one thing is for sure, something good is going to happen in your life as you trust Him!
Just as Jacob set a vision before the sheep, you also need a vision that is rooted in the Word of God – a hope of God doing wondrous things for you. Set your vision and set some objectives. The greatest thing you can have is expectation, and as the Word comes forth as you set yourself to keep a fresh Word in your heart, it will give substance to what you are believing for.
It is time to separate from some things that you have been going through and to say goodbye to what used to be. It is time to set up a memorial and mark this place in your life. Declare His goodness to you this far; acknowledge and recognize that it is His goodness alone that has brought you through to this point – not your education, or your connections or even your family and friends – but God, who gave you those benefits in the first place.
Then you can see clearly that the same hand that brought you this far, is the same hand that will bring your breakthrough again into a whole new level of life.
Up to now maybe you have only been able to get so far on your desired path; you were shortlisted for the dream job, but never hired; you were able to find boyfriends, but could never find a marriage partner; you could do so much before you hit the wall and you only got so far before you got cut off.
Don’t give up! Don’t back off your dream! Now is the time to press in even harder to lay hold of what you are believing God for! Don’t let life cause you to drift in your faith. Let the Word of God nail and bolt you to the Rock of Ages, who will surely bring it to pass in your life!
