Do you ever feel as though life has you on trial? You are sitting in the hot seat and the pressure is on to come up with the answers, the money, the right words and the results! Maybe that is where life has you right now.
Before you yield to the feeling of being backed into a corner without options, and before you make a move that may take the rest of your life to recover from, let me show you something that will change everything.
The biggest issue that you will ever face in your life is what I call “the orphan spirit”. It is the sense of destitution that we are all subject to as we face the impossibilities of simply making life work. There isn’t a single individual who, at some point, won’t experience this overwhelming sense of being alone with no help, and nowhere to turn.
Experiencing this is not a sign of failure, or even of unusual weakness. It’s a sign that you are human!
It’s at those times that you have to listen for the voice of the Holy Spirit, whispering to you that you belong to God. Romans 8:15 -17 tells us:
For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ
In the courtroom of life, when you feel that all eyes are on you, and the verdict is about to be announced, before the hearing is closed, call up the last witness – that of the Holy Spirit. Let Him bear witness in this trial to the fact that you are NOT going down, because you are a son and an heir! There is someone on your side, fighting for you.
Notice that this verse tells us that we have not received the spirit of bondage to fear AGAIN. This implies that we had it before, but we got rid of it. Now in this pressured situation, it is trying to gain mastery once again. In any challenge you face, recognize the aggressive action of the spirit of fear, trying to pin you down and bind you to itself. Resist it with the words of your mouth! You have not been given a spirit of fear!
Not even a little bit of fear is good, as some people believe. Fear is not what keeps you from doing something dangerous; wisdom is what causes you to behave safely and soberly. Don’t allow fear any room in your thinking and reasoning. Fear is an enemy; it will keep you small and lead you in wrong paths.
Instead of yielding to fear, learn to discern the Holy Spirit’s voice. He is the One who is letting you know that you are more precious to God than you can imagine! Let Him give you a flash back to the last time God brought you out of trouble and made a way when there simply was NO WAY!
Let Him remind you that you are more valuable than the birds and the animals whom God feeds every day, even though they don’t work and they don’t give their tithes and offerings! Yet not a single one falls to the ground without Him knowing.
The fact is that most of us have an addiction and it is called worry. But that’s not the life that God has prepared or intended for us. That is the life of an unbeliever who has no knowledge of a Heavenly Father.
We must settle our hearts that God is our Father. He is the Father of all fathers, and He’s not distant or detached. He is not a set of rules, or a judge. Neither is He sitting in the midst of the same circumstances as you and me. He is not a man, He is infinitely greater – and He has assumed responsibility for our lives; He is well able to lift us up.
Instead of panicking today, take time to magnify Him. There are some things that no man or woman can answer for you, but only Him alone. Let your perspective change as you come up to where He is. Let Him remind you of His grace, His ability and His power. Be still and know that He is God. Take time and let Him know that you have placed your trust in Him. He will not let you down!
Take a moment to remember when He did it for you the last time – how He reached into your life and did the impossible. When you think of it, it still leaves you baffled how He did it – He took away those cravings for all the wrong things; the lump that was so threatening simply disappeared; the job offer came by the most inexplicable route and the money was there right when you needed it. If He ever did it before, He will do it again, because that is who He is in your life.
Call up the last witness – and may your life be made whole as He testifies to you of your immense value and worth. Please believe it and receive it!
