I am surprised and astonished that you are so quickly turning renegade and deserting Him Who invited and called you by the grace (unmerited favor) of Christ (the Messiah) [and that you are transferring your allegiance] to a different [even an opposition] gospel. (Amplified)
The church has labeled grace a message, but it is much more than that.
Grace is the gospel.
In fact, if you preach a different gospel, this verse makes it clear that you are not preaching the message of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. You are transferring your allegiance to a different set of beliefs, even if you are still calling it “The gospel”.
No wonder Christians are confused and their lives are robbed of power, since according to Romans 1:16 the true gospel is the power of God for salvation.
That means that unless the gospel is taught clearly and the hearers understand that it is all by grace and grace alone; their lives will be devoid of the power to get the results promised them in the Word.
Instead of experiencing breakthrough, provision, and wholeness, Christians are depressed, troubled and above all, condemned. What does this tell us? – They have been taught a different “gospel” – a message of a God who may not come through for them if they don’t live right.
For example, it is a major Christian doctrine that the believer has to die to himself in order to live a holy life.
But this is not true. When a person gets born again, he dies once and for all. He is even buried with Christ in the waters of baptism. Now it is time for him to LIVE! to experience resurrection power and an unbroken experience of the love of God.
Believers are the only ones on the planet who have the liberty to live in a state of fellowship with their Heavenly Father. That means that everything belonging to Him is now theirs, and as He is, so are they in this world. Since God is not angry, hopeless, afraid and ashamed; and since He isn’t in debt, sick and fearful of the future; and neither are we.
It takes a decision, that’s all, to accept the grace of Christ, which is the gospel, and to choose to live every day in excitement and gratitude for the great provision of God for our lives. Whatever that need is, we know it is met because Jesus already took care of it.
It’s a paradigm shift to stop your thinking going back over what is wrong with you and what you should do to improve in order for God to be pleased with you, and instead to allow it to dwell in a restful state of thanksgiving.
But it is from that launch pad that possibilities arise. It is from that starting point that we develop true intimacy with our Heavenly Father and our lives take on new energy, purpose and excitement.
Don’t listen to another so-called gospel a moment longer. Embrace the grace of God, and LIVE!
