1 John 3:16-17
And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him. Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world.
It is one thing to know the fact that God loves us; it is entirely different thing to believe that love based on revealed knowledge of Jesus Christ.
When we have a revelation of the love of God, our whole life changes. We acquire boldness as we suddenly understand who it is who walks with us every day.
Religion lacks the revelation of the love of God. It suggests that to live successfully we need Jesus PLUS other things. That is because people so easily limit God into being only as good, only as able and only as abundant as they are.
The ceiling of religion comes because the focus is on us rather than on the awesomeness of who Jesus is.
On the mount of transfiguration, Peter wanted to put Jesus on a par with Elijah and Abraham. That was when God spoke to redirect his and John’s attention to His Son, the One and only Savior of the world. He stands alone in His supremacy over all others. On Him and Him alone, everything rests and finds its fulfillment.
Yet in so many churches we are instructed in, “Ten principles for getting out of debt”, or, “Three ways to overcome depression”
Pastors preach according to people’s felt needs, but if you see Jesus for yourself, in all His wholeness, all His wisdom and grace and power, you will become like Him. Your need will be met as He becomes that to you.
Only God can unveil our eyes to see certain things.
It starts with recognizing once and for all that HE alone is the answer. Instead of boasting about how much you love God, start to declare how much He loves you.
You will know when the love of God is starting to get through to you, because your fear will go. You will no longer live like an unbeliever: afraid of the future.
You will know, “I am not my own, I have been marked with His mark. As He is, so am I in this world”
