Do you know yourself?

2 Corinthians 2:11

…..lest Satan should take advantage of us; for we are not ignorant of his devices.

Fulfilling your God-given assignment in life is going to be a battle; there is a devil loose and he also has an assignment.

His objective is to bring you into captivity to the law of sin, so that he can bring you down.  The battle ground is in your thought life. The artillery of the devil is unleashed and directed at your mind.

This war that is going on in your thinking is the product of what you can’t get enough of. The book of James tells us that every man is tempted when of his own lust – because of what he can’t get enough of – he is drawn away.  The devil just has to present you with the thing that you love so much. As you go with it, Satan draws you away from the purpose of God for your life.

People don’t know themselves enough.

What is it that you love? Power? Friends? Cars? Shopping? Computer games? Looking good? Affirmation?

These things are not neutral. To have a mindset of self pity; to always feel a victim; to be problem orientated, not solution orientated; maybe you just need to be praised all the time. What is it that draws and holds your attention? Your tastes and appetites in life will get you in trouble if you don’t take care of them.

The lady who was married five times thought that Jesus was hitting on her. She was always thinking that a better prospect would come by. There was something in the woman that she cannot get enough of.

Is the devil studying you more than you study yourself? Does he keep catching you out with the same issue?

When you know yourself, you know what TV channels to look at, when to go shopping and when to stay home, when to eat and when to not go to the supermarket.

The good news is that God has made provision for us in this area. Christianity is not simply behavior modifcation. God provides a way to experience genuine change on the inside that causes us to will and act in line with His will. As we do this we can know the unsurpassed fulfillment of successfully walking in our God given purpose.

Tomorrow I will be talking about how it works. Don’t miss it!
